Movie Rob reviews Wayne’s World 2

Movie Rob has returned to our ongoing Sequelthon with a review of 1993’s Wayne’s World 2. Rob was good enough to review Bad Boys II a few weeks back in the Sequelthon as well. Check out his review below and be sure to head to his site for many more great reviews. Thanks Rob!

Wayne's_World_2“What I’d really like to do is something extraordinary. Something big. Something mega. Something copious. Something capacious. Something cajunga! But I’ll probably end up working at Great America, mopping up hurl and lung butter. ” – Wayne

Number of Times Seen – 1 (14 Apr 2016)

Brief Synopsis – Wayne and Garth decide to put on a rock concert after Wayne is visited in a dream by Jim Morrison.

My Take on it – When the first film came out in the theater in ’92, I was interested in seeing it because I really enjoyed the characters during the SNL skits.

For some reason, I have had little desire to watch the sequel and held off until now for it.

The transition to the big screen isn’t as smooth here as we would all probably like, but the amount of amazing pop culture references used here makes this silly plot seem much better than it really is.

Mike Myers and Dana Carvey do an amazing job here portraying the teenagers we all wish we could have been.

The success of this film (even as a sequel) helped spawn an abundance of SNL skit adaptations for the screen.

I’m actually extremely glad that Myers never tried to make a third movie but instead focused on the Austin Powers series because I’m not too sure they would have been able to find a good way to squeeze another 90 minutes out of these very lovable characters.

They are best in small 5-10 minutes skits and it’s probably better to watch the SNL skits overall.

Bottom Line – Silly film that is filled with so many pop culture references that you still enjoy it all despite the insanity. Myers and Carvey are once again superb. Helped spawn the SNL obsession of making feature films of their successful skits. Glad they stopped after this one because I’m not sure if they would have been able to squeeze out another full 90 minutes from these lovable characters. This is fun, but the skits on SNL are still soo much better.

MovieRob’s Favorite Trivia – Mike Myers wanted Federico Fellini to direct. Paramount, thinking Myers was joking, quickly squashed that idea. (From IMDB)

Rating – BAFTA Worthy 6/10
