Greetings from Stockholm!

Good Evening America! Flashback/Backslide is coming to you live from Stockholm, Sweden. “Awesome Mix, Vol. 1” from Guardians of the Galaxy was the only music I managed to load onto my phone before leaving Dallas, TX / Rochester, NY / Columbus, OH for Europe so I thought I would leave it here to play in the background as you peruse some photos of my trip at your leisure. That way you can have that real authentic feeling. (Surely, this is the low point for blogging narcissism).

It has been nearly three days since I arrived in Stockholm and I still have seen no sign of Mikael Blomkvist or Lisbeth Salandar. I did see Jarl Borg mentioned on a sign near some Medieval castle ruins. I can only assume this is the same Jarl Borg of Götaland as seen in History’s Vikings.

Stockholm Snow

Everyone told us and told us, Stockholm is cold. But not for… okay yes for me. This place is freezing. The sun starts to set at 16:00 and by evening it gets so cold that a man’s laughter freezes in his throat and chokes him to death.

American Sniper baby

No Salandar, but I did see a few celebrities. This picture was taken in Skansen, an open air museum in Stockholm showcasing Swedish history. If you look closely at this model room, you can see the baby who starred in American Sniper. He is pretty camera shy so I had to take this quickly.

Stockholm cathderal recital

A recital in Storkyrkan, the oldest church in Gamla Stan (the old town of Stockholm). Here I begin to perfect my over-the-stranger’s-shoulder technique.

Stockholm Skansen Elk

Winter may be here but the Elk in the Skansen zoo are just Elkin’ out, livin’ the Elk life.

Skansen Bison

Don´t worry my American friends! These are European bison. Ours are still safe in…Montana? This frustrated Papa Bison tries to pull a carrot out of an ice ball but the lack of opposable thumbs (slash thumbs in general) proves to be his downfall. I cheered him on for 30 minutes before I heard there were Wolverines in the area.

Skansen Stockholm Wolverine

Not surprisingly, when I approached the Wolverine area with my winter hat on there were no Wolverines to be seen.  I suspect they were hiding and reacted to the hat like a demon would to holy water. I could almost hear the animal groan “Keep that away from me” Regan-style.

Skansen wood reindeer

Look at this thing. It thinks it’s so cool. Just before I took this picture the girl in pink was holding her mother’s hand because the ice was too slippery. It’s not cool to ask for help! Walk by yourself, you little gargoyle! Also those are wooden reindeer. Also I ate reindeer. The standard brown-nosed kind. Sorry if that offends anyone.

My brother’s dog Brody, who also happens to be the Patron Dog of my trip.

That’s all from Flashback/Backslide in Stockholm. Next stop, Greece!

Thanks for reading!
